Teacher Training FAQ

Where is Sound Circle located?

Sound Circle Center classes are held at the Seattle Waldorf School in the Meadowbrook neighborhood of North Seattle. 2728 NE 100th ST, Seattle, WA 98125.

Are there any prerequisites for admission into Teacher Training?

The prerequisites into the Teacher Training Program are:

  • Successful completion of Foundation Studies
  • In-person interview with the Pedagogical Coordinator
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent

What if I took Foundation Studies at a different teacher training institute? Will my credits transfer to Sound Circle?

In most cases, yes; however, a copy of your transcript must be submitted with your application for us to make a proper determination. We do not, however, accept credit from online courses.

Do I have to take Teacher Training A first, then Teacher Training B?

No, you can enter the program either year. You must, however, complete both Teacher Training A and B in order to receive a Waldorf Teacher Training Certificate.

If I am commuting from far away, is there somewhere for me to stay on Friday nights?

Over the years, we have had students commute regularly from Port Townsend, Olympia, Bellingham, Whidbey Island and Bainbridge Island. They have found regular places to stay in the SCC community.

Does Sound Circle offer any distance learning/online classes?

No. Waldorf education is a holistic approach to educating a child's head, heart and hands. In this pedagogy, the will to learn, the feeling life in relationship to self and others, and the living process of thinking are engaged. In order to train a teacher to teach a child, the student teacher must engage deeply with the peer students and teachers in study and artistic processes. This learning environment meets the skills required to work with children in the classroom. As this learning environment is not met in an online setting, Sound Circle Center does not offer an online Foundation Studies or Teacher Training Program.

What sources would you suggest for me to learn more about Waldorf education?

We recommend Why Waldorf Works, a comprehensive site about Waldorf Education sponsored by the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA).

Is there a demand for certified Waldorf Teachers?

Absolutely! Waldorf education is the fastest growing independent educational movement in the world. Waldorf Today is a great resource for current job postings.
